I think I can do step 1, but am having trouble with step 2 so I'm wondering if I could be doing step 1 wrong as well.

If you see a restricted (no-sign) icon when attempting to drag and drop an audio file into FL Studio from Windows generally indicates you're running FL Studio with Administrative privileges. The link (left) is to another Knowledge Base article with a list of items to check. The first, and probably most important, thing to do before trying to import a midi file into BiaB is get to know the song as well as you possibly can. Check your User data folder settings are correct.
This is a useful feature because there are so many MIDI files available on the Internet, many more than are available in BiaB format.
Importing a MIDI file into an existing project Band in a Box can import standard MIDI files and convert them to BiaB format files. The procedure is the same in earlier versions as well.
